A 14-year-old boy from Zejtun this morning was charged with threatening his mother and sister, slightly injuring them and causing them to fear the use of violence against them. He was also accused of damaging property belonging to his mother, carrying a knife and breaching a probation order.
The teenager pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Neville Camiller. Legal aid lawyer Joe Brincat expressed concern about where the youth could be detained under arrest, and requested bail.
Inspector Trevor Micallef objected to the request, as among other issues, the boy has no fixed abode because his mother does not want him in the home. Brincat informed the Court the teenager had told him he was prepared to go and live with a 29-year-old man from Birzebbugia.
Magistrate Camilleri said that the Court was not convinced the youth would abide by the Court’s conditions, and ordered that the youth be detained under arrest and taken to the young offenders’ facility at Mtahleb.
