A reminder that this Thursday, the small island of Comino starts its three days of celebrations for – Festa ta’ Kemmuna – Traditional Comino Feast dedicated to Saint Mary, which is taking place for the fourth consecutive year.
Gozitan artist Manuel Farrugia from Victoria, recently carried out detailed restoration of the statue of Our Lady of Comino. The work was funded by the Ministry for Gozo.
The 1948 statue of St Mary, is by artist Wistin Camilleri, and was donated by Captain Charles Vassallo.
The programme for the 3-days is shown below:
Thursday 16th of August
7.45pm – Opening of the Religious Festive Activities in honour of Saint Mary: Holy Rosary + reflections in the Comino Chapel.
9.00pm – Opening of Outside Festive Activities for the family, and music sessions by DJ Ryan Spiteri.
This event is with a Free entrance. Food and drink stalls will be available through the event. Boats transport will be available from Malta and Gozo at a fee.
From Gozo transport will be provided by Ebson and Bella boats from Mgarr port in front of the mgarr ferry Terminal. For more info call on 79477354 and 99857727.
Friday 17th of August
7.45pm- Holy Mass
8.30pm – Traditional Maltese Feast Dinner – some tickets are still available, but must be booked by Wednesday, 15th of August, details are below for booking.
9.00pm onwards – Live Concert by the band The Tramps
Saturday 18th of August – Comino Feast Day
6.45pm: – Traditional feast High Mass concelebrated by Bishop Mario Grech, open-air in front of the church, with participation of the Cathedral Youth Choir and the altar boys of Qala Parish
This will be followed by a procession with the statue of Saint Mary from the church to Saint Mary’s Quay accompanied by the Visitation Band of Gharb and the participation of the `Fratelli’ of Nadur Parish, where the blessing of the boats ceremony will be held followed by a Eucharist Benediction.
Boat owners are invited to come with their boats in to Santa Marija Bay, Comino, to have their boat blessed during the statue procession to Santa Marija Quay, by H.E. Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.
9.00prn – Live concert by the Band MAE.
For those who are not so familiar to the island of Comino, the organisers are advising to wear comfortable footwear due to the sandy roads.
Santa Marija beach is equipped with toilets and showers where visitors can have a free shower and prepare for the feast.
Transport from Cirkewwa, Marfa and Mgarr Gozo to Comino and back from 9.00am till midnight, by one of the several Comino boats that will be available throughout the day. Boat trips are with a charge and this fare should be paid direct to boat owners.
