The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, has officially opened the first edition of the Gozo Business Expo, which opened its doors yesterday and continues today at the Grand Hotel, Mgarr.
Minister Caruana said that this expo complements the vision adopted by the government to make Gozo a major economic driver in the country and offers a unique experience for small and medium businesses to come under one roof and share their experiences
“The Ministry for Gozo is playing an important role in encouraging investment and paving the way for more businesses to set up in Gozo,” said the Minister.
She explained that, “with the initiatives we adopted, including key fiscal and financial ones, we are attracting industries to Gozo that have never had representation before.”
Dr Caruana mentioned the foreign direct investment of Barts and Steward Health Care, as well as that of Noovle in the field of technology and blockchain.
“The connectivity challenge for Gozo is being addressed by the Ministry on several key aspects, including the introduction of the fourth ship,” the Minister said. “By adding another ship to the Gozo Channel fleet, there be a vessel working on a schedule dedicated solely to cargo. This will give more space on the other three ships for passenger/vehicle crossings.”
“Apart from this we have issued an expression of interest to resume operating a scheduled helicopter service, we have concluded the agreement to install a second fibre optic cable, and plans to implement a tunnel between the islands are now in full swing.” concluded Minister Caruana.
