The Gozo Film Festival has been launched by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, following on from the success of last year, this second edition is organised by the Gozo Film Club, with the support of the Directorate -Tourism and Economic Development within the same Ministry.
Dr Caruana said that it will take place at the Citadel between Friday, the 24th and Sunday, the 26th of August.
The free of charge event promotes Gozitan, Maltese and international filmmakers with selected short and feature movies, spanning different genres for the public to view. The varied repertoire planned for this year, aims to attract a wider audience, both in taste and age range.
The Minister explained that this type of festival creates interest among film enthusiasts and others who aspire to be involved in this industry.Federico Chini, who is responsible for this festival, explained that during the three days the open-air movies will be in the beautiful setting of Saint John’s Demi-Bastion on a outdoor screen, as well as inside in the Sentinella Theatre Hall, which is air conditioned.
There will also be a children programme, lectures on filmmaking, documentaries as part of the programme, in fact, something for all ages.
A total of 41 short films will be shown including 9 productions from Malta and Gozo. In the evenings a film will be shown that relates to th islands.. These movies are Kon-Tik on Friday, 24th of August, and 20,000 Reasons will be shown on Saturday, 25th On Sunday the 26th, the audience will be able watch a family film – Treasure in Malta.
