Seydon Bandango, a 39-year-old man from Burkina Faso, has been found guilty of raping a woman in Pembroke three years ago.

Bandando and an accomplice, 38-year-old Nigerian national Emmanuel Ngumezi, were accused of abducting the Italian woman from St George’s Bay, bundling her in their car and driving her up to Pembroke to rape her in July 2016.

Someone heard the woman screaming inside a parked Fiat Punto and called the police, who arrived on site to find Bandango naked from the waist down inside the car. Upon seeing the police, Ngumezi ran away but was apprehended shortly afterwards.

After deliberating for around six hours following a trial behind closed doors, a jury today found both men guilty of kidnapping the woman, holding her against her will, and causing her slight injuries. However, while they found Bandango guilty of rape, they acquitted Ngumezi of the charge.

Judge Giovanni Grixti will deliver his sentence tomorrow.
