For the second consecutive year, the Ministry for Gozo through the Animal Welfare Department Gozo. is organising the Pet Friendly Holiday.
This initiative means that visitors crossing over to Gozo with their pets between the 13th and 19th of August – for the popular feast of Santa Marija – will be provided with drinking water for pets at both Gozo Channel ferry terminals of Cirkewwa and Mgarr, to help them find some relief from this intense summer heat.
Every person crossing from Malta to Gozo, will be issued with a pet ticket, which must be presented to Gozo Channel officials. Pet owners will also be given an information leaflet about their care in hot weather.
The Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, speaking during a visit to the offices of the Animal Welfare section in Gozo, said, “as promised this section is now equipped with the human resources and necessary equipment to ensure that it serves its function in the most efficient way.”
Dr Caruana thanked all the members of the team in the Animal Welfare section for their dedication and commitment towards the care of abandoned and vulnerable animals.
Heidi Grech of Animal Welfare Gozo said that in the summer there is a tendency for more animals to be abandoned, and so the section thought that an awareness campaign and the provision of free water, will go towards helping those owners who want their pets to accompany them on holiday to Gozo.
