Giving blood is one of the most wonderful things a person can do for someone else, helping patients who are struggling with their health, or possibly even their life.
The National Blood Transfusion Service has said that blood donations are sometimes taken for granted or ignored, and it is a challenge during the summer months to collect the 50 bags of blood necessary each day to maintain stocks.
The Service has called for more awareness in this regard, and with this in mind, the public in Gozo is invited to donate blood during a session at the District Health Centre in Xewkija, this Sunday, the 19th of August, from 8:00am to 1:00pm (last registration 1:00pm).
It is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
The Service thanks everyone who intends to donate.
