Malta’s most controversial X-Factor judge who inspires either devotion or sharp criticism, Alex Alden, has released her fifth track from her album ‘Wild Honey (2018)’, which comes out this Monday.

The soulful and deeply moving track is called ‘Muscle & Blood’, featuring a visually beautiful music video inspired by a recent photo-shoot at the Malta School of Art detailing Luke Azzopardi’s designs for the singer during X factor.

The busts around the building clearly inspired Alden, who said that they reminded her of “a one-sided relationship.” The video was filmed by Marie-Claire Portelli while both artists jointly edited the final product.

Speaking to Lovin Malta about the project, Alden said:

“When you’re giving giving giving in a relationship but not getting anything back, I like to think that the expression of the love itself is still valuable – if not to the subject of your affections, then to the world at large, and you as a person. The love you express takes on an identity of its own – so long as you are not forgetting yourself in the process. It touches on the subject of wistful, blind love.

“You live and you learn and you give and you take and you hope you’ve had a positive effect along the way.”

Alden gave a special thanks to The Malta School of Art for allowing them to use the space for the video.

Apart from becoming a household name after Malta’s first season of X-Factor, Alden also has some serious credentials in the music industry, having formally studied overseas and recently graduating with a bachelor’s degree in jazz music, specialising in vocals at the conservatory ‘Codarts’ in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Alden’s upcoming concert at the National Library is taking place on 17th May, with tickets available at in collaboration with Tao Productions. The after-party with complimentary prosecco and cheese will be at Salumeria.
