World Environment Day was celebrated in Gozo with events children at the Villa Rundle Gardens organised by the Ministry for Gozo.
Pupils from several schools across Gozo had the opportunity to take part in different activities which were aimed to educate and raise awareness of the environment around us.
There was tree planting, horticultural sessions, craft ,and the chance to learn about bee keeping and how honey is produced – something that everyone can experience this weekend at the Honey and Bee Fest.
World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June and is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.
This year’s celebrations, held under the theme ‘Beat Air Pollution,’ called upon people to explore renewable energy and green technologies, and improve air quality in cities and regions across the world.
The UN said that more than 6 billion people – one-third of them children – regularly breathe air that is so polluted it puts their health and well-being at risk.
