A 23-year-old man from Senglea was arrested after he assaulted a police inspector during a road block in Zabbar on Friday night, the police said.
The incident took place at 1.30am. The man was stopped by the police for inspection and, upon exiting his vehicle, he became aggressive towards officers and members of the Armed Forces of Malta.
As he was being arrested and handcuffed, he assaulted the inspector, who suffered minor injuries. The driver refused to take a breathalyser test. He was escorted to the police lock-up in Floriana and will be charged in court.
During the same inspection exercise, the police found cannabis in cars driven by a 28-year-old woman of Zabbar and a 25-year-old man of Zejtun.
An 18-year-old man of Zabbar was caught driving an unlicensed vehicle. The teenager, who had a 19-year-old man riding as a passenger, was also caught in possession of cocaine and cannabis.
The police said that a 44-year-old man from Paola tried to evade the road block. He did not obey police orders and refused to take a breathalyser test. Other drivers were caught driving without a licence or under the influence of alcohol. They were all booked for traffic offences.
