When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When life gives you the chance to buy a lemon the size of a small car, you squeeze the opportunity to have ultimate bragging rights over your friends.
The instantly recognisable Happy Yellow Lemon Bar is up for sale online. A staple of the Sliema seafront, the lemon has been under the care of Vincenzo Lopez and his wife since they bought it last year.
The couple were both freelancers and wanted a bit of a change in their routine, especially since working from home can be a frustratingly solitary experience. The lemon was more than just a side project for the two, who considered the kiosk to be a self-assigned mission.
The giant tequila-accompaniment served not only as a hotspot for fresh juices and organic granitas, but also as a tourist information centre. Vincenzo’s wife was always happy to help passing customers with hints and tips about the island.
The ethos of the lemon is entirely organic, 100%. No flavoured syrups or additives were ever used, and almost everything was sourced from local suppliers. Any tips collected were used to help feed and shelter stray cats in Xemxija.

The lemon has garnered a great following over the years, and has had a steady income since summer came around, so it’s hard to see why anyone would sell such a viable source of income.
But all good things must come to an end, and Vincenzo wants to focus on other projects for the time being. He hopes that whoever takes over will continue the lemon’s legacy.
Besides; who wouldn’t want to buy a massive lemon and have it take up a parking space or two in Silema to frustrate everyone else? You can literally start serving them lemons when they get too bitter.
