The Nationalist Party executive has unanimously signed a resolution calling for Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to immediately resign, The Malta Independent is informed.
The Nationalist Party had called an urgent meeting of the party’s executive and administrative committees as well as the Parliamentary Group which began this morning at 10.30am, mainly to discuss the political situation in the country and the possibility of the PN taking harsher measures in light of it.
It is very rare that such meetings are called on a Sunday.
Yorgen Fenech was recently arrested and spoken to by the police over the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Fenech is asking for a Presidential pardon. The past days have seen protests take place outside Castille and Parliament. Calls for the removal of OPM Chief of Staff Keith Schembri and Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi have continued but thus far, they are still in their posts.
Just this morning it was revealed that the Labour Party’s Parliamentary Group is split over Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s future, but is almost in unanimous agreement that Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi should resign.
More information will follow soon.
