Yorgen Fenech, the man charged with being a mastermind behind the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, accompanied outgoing PM Joseph Muscat and his disgraced chief of staff, Keith Schembri, to the wedding of Pilatus Bank chairman Sayed Ali Sadr Hasheminejad, Lovin Malta has reported.
The 2015 wedding was held in Florence, Italy. The three travelled together, according to the report.
They stayed at the Roccoforte Hotel in Florence, at the expense of Sadr Hasheminejad, and the wedding was held at the Four Seasons.
Muscat and Schembri had admitted, in 2018, that they attended the wedding. Pilatus Bank was at the centre of the Egrant scandal.
Meanwhile, MaltaToday has reported that Fenech paid €24,000 for Schembri’s cancer treatment in the United States. The former chief of staff received treatment for an eye tumour at the Mayo Clinic.
MaltaToday, quoting sources close to the Fenech family, reports that Fenech paid two bills: one costing €10,000, the other €14,000.
Details about the close friendship between Schembri and the 17 Black owner have emerged in court over the past few weeks. It emerged last week that Fenech called Schembri on the day before he tried to flee Malta. Schembri says he did not tell Fenech he was under investigation, but also did not tell police about the call. Keith Schembri has also claimed he had lost his mobile phone.
